Manifesting the Life You Deserve: Identifying and Overcoming What is Holding You Back
If you’ve ever felt undervalued, stuck in a life that doesn’t reflect your worth, or unsure where to start, you’re not alone. Many women like us have that glimmer of hope that life can be better, but we’re unsure how to take the first step. You are worthy of more, and it all begins with your thoughts. The first step to creating the life you deserve is understanding and breaking free from the negative thoughts that have been holding you back.
What Are Negative Thoughts (Limiting Beliefs)?
Negative thoughts, or what we might call "limiting beliefs," are those quiet, nagging thoughts that tell you you’re not good enough or that something’s wrong with you. You might not even realise it, but these thoughts show up all the time. For example:
You make a mistake and think, “I’m so stupid.”
You see someone else living the life you dream of and say to yourself, “I could never have that.”
You stop yourself from trying something new because you believe, “I’ll probably just fail.”
These thoughts may seem small or normal, but they build up over time and keep you from living the life you truly deserve. The good news? These thoughts aren’t the truth. They’re stories we tell ourselves, and just like any story, we can rewrite them.
Ask yourself - would you say these negative things to someone else? Imagine yourself at age 7, would you tell that little girl she is stupid, or that she is going to fail?
Step 1: Recognise the Negative Thoughts
The first step to changing your life is becoming aware of the negative thoughts that are holding you back. I dare say that by reading this, you have already noticed this pattern and are ready to learn how to break the cycle. Start paying attention to your inner dialogue. What do you say to yourself when things don’t go as planned, or when you’re faced with a challenge? Write these thoughts down so you can start to notice any patterns. When you bring these thoughts into the open, they start to lose their power. See, you’re already making progress!
Step 2: Replace Them with Positive Beliefs
Once you’ve identified your negative thoughts, it’s time to replace them with something more positive. Here’s how you can flip the script:
"I’m so stupid" becomes "I’m learning, and it’s okay to make mistakes."
"I could never have that kind of life" becomes "I am worthy of success and happiness."
“I’ll just fail" becomes "I am brave enough to try."
It might feel strange at first, but saying these new beliefs out loud every day will help them become second nature. Over time, you’ll start to believe them. Bonus tip: write them down and notice how good it feels to flip the script.
Step 3: Imagine the Life You Really Want
Now that you’re working on changing your thoughts, it’s time to focus on what you want. Take some quiet time each day to imagine your dream life. Picture yourself feeling happy, confident, and valued. What would your daily life look like? What would it feel like to be living the life you’ve always wanted? This is called visualisation, and it’s a powerful way to bring your dreams closer to reality. Really lean into this and see the positive shift, feel it. You could imagine a colour, a shape, a location, a smell, anything that helps you embody this is going to work to your advantage.
Step 4: Take Small Steps Toward Your Goals
Changing your thoughts is important, but it’s also essential to take small, real steps toward the life you want. Start by doing one small thing every day that moves you closer to your dream—whether that’s setting boundaries with others, learning a new skill, or saying "no" to something that drains your energy. Every little action counts and helps build your confidence. Be patient and brave with this step. Remind yourself of the little girl inside who is counting on you!
Step 5: Surround Yourself with Support
Lastly, it’s so important to find people who see your worth, especially on the days when you don’t. If a particular ‘friend’ has just popped into your mind because they don’t support you, or they bring a lot of drama with them, or maybe they just generally don’t have your best interest at heart, it might be time to speak up or to move on from them. If it’s a genuine friendship, the issue will get resolved, if it isn't then releasing that person could be the ticket to creating space to allow a positive new relationship into your life. Begin surrounding yourself with people who uplift you, and that includes on social media and TV. Unfollow or mute anyone that makes you feel icky.
